Neptune Terminals Berth 1 Marine Infrastructure Improvements Project including Night Shift Construction Work
- Coal capacity amendment west quadrant shiploader (PP12-066-01)
Beginning this spring and continuing throughout the year, Neptune will be installing marine infrastructure to support the installation of a new ship loader, replacing the existing west ship loader for its steelmaking coal handling system. This project has received all required permits from the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority.
This project will include a new quadrant beam, vessel gangway landing platform, and two new dolphins. Equipment involved in the construction of this project will include several 275 tonne land and barge-based cranes, as well as three barges.
Construction of these upgrades will take place between April 1 and December 31, 2019.
Community Impact and Mitigation Plans
Construction activity will take place on two shifts: 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Between April 1 and September 30, 2019, there will also be an evening shift from 7 pm to 7 am, Monday to Saturday. Neptune will provide an update should the night shift need to be extended. There will be no construction
activity on Sundays or statutory holidays.
Because much of the work required is directly in the area and path of vessel loading operations, construction will be focused during the times when there are no vessels berthed at berth 1.
- Noise will be continuously monitored by noise monitors deployed around the construction site. We are committed to managing construction within noise levels prescribed by City of North Vancouver bylaws.
- Pile driving will be required between April and September and a portion of November. Noise will be mitigated by maximizing the use of a vibratory hammer. Impact, diesel hammer will be used minimally, and only during daytime construction hours. Again, this activity will comply with CNV noise bylaws and the Port Authority’s permit.
- Temporary construction lighting will be required. We will minimize the impact on neighbours by using directional LED lights and directing lights away from residential areas
Should there be updates to the activity or schedule for this project over its duration, they will be posted on our website, and emailed to our distribution list. To be added to this list for future notices, please email us at email@example.com.
