Neptune Terminals Dust Suppression Upgrade

Neptune terminals is proceeding with the construction of permitted upgrades to the dust suppression system on its steelmaking coal stockpile.

This project is part of our ongoing effort to continuously improve our environmental management and minimize impacts of our operations on the neighbouring community. It involves replacing the existing wooden spray poles with new steel spray poles and oscillating yard sprays in strategic locations. The
new system will optimize water coverage of the steelmaking coal and further enhance our ability to prevent dust from leaving our site, particularly during high wind events. It will be fully automated to optimize water usage. The project will be constructed in three phases, beginning with Phase 1 from October 22, 2018 until June 2019. Timing for further phases will be communicated on our website before work commences.

  • Phase 1: A total of 20 yard sprays around the steelmaking coal stock pile (see attached image of yard spray).
  • Phase 2: Five more yard sprays along the overpass extension into Neptune’s property to be completed by 2020.
  • Phase 3: Two 30.48 meter high spray poles and two 23.04 meter high spray poles, plus 7 additional yard sprays alongside rail tracks on our site, adjacent to the steelmaking coal stock pile (see image of spray poles). To be completed by 2020.
