NVFC Kick Starting Children’s Passion for Soccer

North Vancouver Football Club’s innovative “Kick Start” program will be back for its third year this September. Kick Start gives boys and girls under the age of five a chance to have fun while getting introduced to the game of soccer. And the best part for parents? The program, which runs from September to March, takes place entirely indoors.

Sessions are 45 minutes long and take place on Saturdays. This season the program will run out of Sutherland Secondary School and Parkgate Community Centre, helping to keep North Vancouver families closer to home and allowing kids to play with other children from their neighbourhoods.

Registration is still open for new players, but parents interested in enrolling their children are encouraged to contact NVFC as soon as possible as the program is expected to fill up this season. Click here for more registration information.

Kick Start is instructed by professional coaches who will teach basic soccer skills in a safe and fun environment. Children benefit from the very low coach-to-player ratio, which helps ensure more attention is provided to each participant. This is also great for parents interested in coaching as they get to observe our certified coaching staff and learn how to run a practice. In addition to getting kids involved in the most-played sport in Canada, Kick Start also helps to keep children active and teaches good habits about leading an active and healthy lifestyle.

In the first two years, Kick Start was run as an 8-10 week program, but the strong support from the community has convinced NVFC to run it as a regular age group with weekly sessions through the entire soccer season.

Neptune Terminals is a proud sponsor of Kick Start, helping to ensure children from lower-income families are able to take part and enjoy The Beautiful Game.

Kick Start is just one part of the NVFC, a boys and men’s soccer club (with the exception of Kick Start which is open to boys and girls) that has 3,500 playing members and approximately 200 teams. NVFC operates with the invaluable support of approximately 1,000 volunteers from the community.
