Culture on the North Shore

Art

MONOVA: Museum of North Vancouver is a new and exciting cultural venue on the North Shore. Neptune is delighted to be the presenting sponsor for MONOVA’s flagship exhibit, You Are Here @ The Shipyards which runs until January 2024. Visitors are able to enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities exploring themes including how The Shipyards came to be, and how a community develops.

During Spring Break from March 11-26, MONOVA is open daily—visitors can also view Ideal City/ Sustainable City, which features a hands-on activity exploring community building. A school program, launching shortly, invites students to explore the significance of the historic Shipyards District through participatory programs and a walking tour of The Shipyards. Other upcoming programming includes a Connections Speakers Series: A Planner’s History of The Shipyards with former City of North Vancouver Planners Richard White and Gary Penway.

“We wanted Neptune involved from the outset,” says Laurel Lawry, Acting Director at MONOVA. “For an up-and-coming cultural attraction like ours, this level of investment from our community member, and neighbour, is so important. We are incredibly grateful for the support and recognition of this area’s significance.”

Part of The Shipyards exhibition addresses its historic significance as a gathering place, and how shipbuilding has played such an important role in the development of the waterfront. We are so grateful to have this educational treasure in our midst. To learn more, or visit the Museum of North Vancouver: https://monova.ca/
