Made In Canada
Did you know that Neptune handles only Canadian-produced resources for export to overseas markets? Neptune is owned by two bulk commodity shippers: Canpotex, which exports potash from Nutrien and Mosaic mines in Saskatchewan, and EVR (Elk Valley Resources), which produces steelmaking coal in British Columbia. All the products we handle at our terminal are shipped to markets overseas. That includes over 100 countries like Brazil, China, India and Indonesia for potash, and places where there are steel mills including Korea, Japan, China, Germany and Poland for steelmaking coal.
You probably didn't know that Neptune is the world's largest potash terminal, right here in North Vancouver. Potash is a naturally occurring, water-soluble crop nutrient that's crucial to agriculture worldwide. Neptune handles 70% of Canpotex's potash, which is more than a third of Canada's total potash. Neptune also handles 70% of EVR's steelmaking coal, which is roughly 60% of Canada's steelmaking coal.
Steelmaking coal, also referred to as metallurgical or coking coal, is an essential ingredient in steel production. From everyday household appliances to critical infrastructure such as rail, bridges, hospitals and schools, it is an essential input for most steel, which can be used in products that improve the quality of life for people around the world.
"As a Canadian company, and an exporter of Canadian goods, our employees are proud of the critical role we play," says Megan Owen-Evans, President of Neptune Terminals. "Through our operations here on the North Shore of Vancouver, we help people thrive – locally through our economic contributions to our community, and globally through the products we provide."
