Community Update

A Letter from Claus Thornberg, President

These are unusual times. Without exception and in countless ways, each of us has been fundamentally affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. It has changed the way we work, the way we shop for everyday items and the way we think about our health and safety and that of our loved ones. I know you are all facing unexpected changes, and I want to thank our employees and our community for your continued support and to reassure you that we are in this together.

At Neptune Terminals, our operations have been classified as an essential service—part of the Port of Vancouver supply chain that keeps goods moving in and out of Canada. Safety is our top priority and we are making every effort to protect our employees and community to ensure we can continue to fulfill this vital role.

In addition to recognizing our employees and community, I also want to thank our incredible frontline workers: the dedicated teams at Lions Gate Hospital and urgent care centres, first responders, longterm care workers, City and District of North Vancouver employees, transportation providers, grocery store and food service teams, daycare providers and many more. Your exceptional dedication is humbling, and I know that I speak for many who feel incredibly fortunate to call the North Shore home.

In this spirit, I am proud of the many ways that the North Shore has collectively risen to the challenges of this global pandemic. I am equally proud of our involvement in this community. We continue to work with restaurants, neighbouring businesses and local organizations, offering increased support to help make possible new services and operational changes that enhance their ability to serve our community while taking proper precautions to protect the health and safety of their teams.

And, if you are near our terminal on Low Level Road you are bound to hear some extra noise on Fridays at 7 p.m. The ships docked at Neptune sound their horns to join in the salute to our frontline workers. I am proud to also join in this salute and extend it to each and every one of our staff and community members for their resiliency and determination.

Stay safe. Stay well.

Sincerely,

Claus Thornberg
