Neptune recognizes the challenges our community is experiencing in the face of the global COVID-19 pandemic and we are supporting local partners to weather this storm together.
Supporting our seniors
We know seniors are among those most vulnerable during this pandemic. We have focused our efforts on supporting them, ensuring they have access to meals, social connection and medical needs while maintaining safe physical distance.
Neptune is pleased to partner with the Parkgate Society and support the delivery of hot and cold meals to seniors in our community. Visit myparkgate.com.
We have increased support for North Shore Community Resources (NSCR), which is one of 24 hubs in BC receiving BC211 calls. Through BC211, seniors can connect with NSCR for regular check-in calls and assistance with ordering groceries and prescriptions. Neptune is also supporting the North Shore Neighbourhood House to retrofit one of its buses to meet physical distancing requirements to be used to transport seniors to medical appointments. Visit BC211.ca or dial 2-1-1.
Mental Health and Wellness
We all need somebody to lean on at some point. Family Services North Shore (FSNS) has seamlessly transitioned to offering virtual service through phone and video calls. Visit familyservices.bc.ca or call 604-877-4381 or 236-982-9871, Monday to Friday (9 a.m. – 5 p.m.) to speak directly with someone on a confidential basis. Up to six weeks of free counselling is available to anyone who needs it.
Access to Food
The annual fundraising concert held by the District of North Vancouver Fire Fighters Charitable Society could not go ahead this year. Instead, sponsors, including Neptune, are redirecting funds to a campaign supporting the Harvest Project to purchase and deliver groceries to isolated seniors, give grocery gift cards for those financially strained, offer counselling for those struggling with mental health and so much more. To contribute visit dnvfirecharity.ca.
North Shore Neighbourhood House is offering food assistance in collaboration with the Greater Vancouver Food Bank from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. each Wednesday. On Thursdays, volunteers are delivering additional groceries to others in need, including young parents, youths and seniors.
Childcare and Education Tools
Learning and childcare remains a top priority for families amidst COVID-19. We are supporting North Shore Community Resources Childcare Resource and Referral program in finding care options for kids whose parents are essential workers. We’ve also donated laptops to North Shore Neighbourhood House for use by school-aged kids enrolled in their childcare programs. Parkgate Society also continues to offer virtual programming for youth and families, including virtual story times and online youth chat groups. Visit nscr.bc.ca, nsnh.bc.ca, myparkgate.com.
