Celebrating Women in Waterfront Industries
At Neptune Terminals, we pride ourselves on our strong leadership and commitment to inclusion, which underpin a progressive and supportive workplace. We have women in leadership roles across the organization, starting with our president, alongside roles in communication, legal, human resources, finance, four superintendents and more. Every day Neptune strives to create a supportive environment where women can thrive and build careers in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
One of the newest team members is Jennifer Sartorius, who joined Neptune this January. Jennifer brings more than 30 years of experience, most recently working at Howe Sound Pulp and Paper. With extensive maintenance experience and a background as a millwright by trade, she has built a career grounded in technical skill, problem-solving, and hands-on expertise.
For Jennifer, Neptune was the ideal choice: a chance to take on something new without having to relocate her family. It was a move that offered both professional growth and personal stability — a combination she describes as a “great opportunity.” So far, the transition has been a positive one.
“It’s been great,” she shares. “The team is so strong already, and everyone is friendly and willing to share their knowledge.”
As Jennifer continues to settle into her role, she’s focusing on defining and developing her responsibilities while learning Neptune’s operations and systems. One of the most encouraging aspects of her experience so far has been the strong female representation in the workplace. “There are more women working here than I’ve ever seen in my 30-year career,” she notes. “It’s great to see such a progressive work environment.”
Jennifer describes Neptune as inclusive and forward-thinking, and she’s looking forward to continuing to learn and grow with the company. Her journey reflects the broader momentum of women entering and excelling in non-traditional industries—bringing skill, leadership, and fresh perspectives to roles that are reshaping the future of industrial workplaces.
