Neptune Terminals is Critical to Canada’s Supply Chain
As global demand for critical minerals — as well as steel and agricultural products — continues to grow, Neptune Terminals plays a vital role in Canada’s supply chain and export economy. From its location on the North Shore waterfront, Neptune connects Canadian resources to international markets throughout Asia, South America, Europe and beyond.
Recent industry discussions have highlighted the strategic importance of steelmaking coal — an essential material used to produce steel for infrastructure, transportation, renewable energy projects, and manufacturing worldwide. Unlike thermal coal used for power generation, steelmaking coal is critical to producing the steel used in buildings, bridges, railways, hospitals, wind turbinesw and electric vehicles.
Steelmaking coal handled at Neptune begins its journey in B.C.’s Elk Valley before travelling west by rail to the North Vancouver terminal for export. The terminal also serves as an important export hub for Canadian potash, a critical mineral essential for agriculture and global food security.
Both of Neptune’s shareholders, Elk Valley Resources and Canpotex, have and continue to invest significantly in the terminal, because the Vancouver corridor is so important to them. As Canada focuses on resilient supply chains and trade diversification, Neptune remains an essential link between Canadian resources and global markets. As Neptune grows as a business, so too does our local procurement and investment in the community.
